Images of the East German upheaval

The social change in the East associated with the end of the GDR and German reunification has many facets and faces: the new political conditions or the rupture in many life stories that continues to have an impact today. Holger Herschel's twelve photographic series from different phases of the upheaval can be seen as a kind of visual archaeology. In dialog with the images, the various essays take us to places undergoing reconstruction, show people caught between old and new certainties and illuminate the interiors of a changing material culture. The editors Jürgen Danyel and Holger Herschel will present the text-image volume published by Ch. Links Verlag.
