Art project AI and people over 60

The artistic project New Valley Table opens up a multi-layered reflection on ageing in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and provides insights into marginalized perspectives and experiences with algorithmic systems. AI is changing the way we live and work.
Algorithms are playing an increasingly important role in decision-making processes - both in everyday life and in sensitive areas such as healthcare, recruitment, credit scoring and ensuring security and access. What opportunities does AI offer for older people? What are the risks that lead to greater exclusion or discrimination of already marginalized people?

Artistic concept

New Valley Table examines how structural power relations, stereotypical representations or discriminatory practices in the context of AI shape the realities of older people's lives
Through emotional mapping and personal narratives, stereotypical notions of age are challenged. The diversity and different perspectives of people who already have a lot of life experience become visible.
Visitors are also invited to share their own perspectives and stories as part of the Open Shooting Day on June 25.

New Valley Table is part of the research project Algorithmic fairness in ageing societies: (re-)imagining a better future(anyage.ai) of the Social Science Research Center Berlin funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.

The video installation will be presented as part of the MindAIness event 2025: The performative practice of mindful engagement with Artificial Intelligence in our society.

The interviews for the project were conducted with the support of the Deutscher Senioren Computer Club e.V., F1 - the district center at Mehringplatz, the BCMA Gallery and the self-organized women's group 60+ from MigrArte Perú.

About the artist

Karina Villavicencio (Argentina) is a contemporary artist, researcher and curator. Her work operates at the intersection of performance, photography and social practice. In participatory formats, she deals with questions of power, visibility and care. From an intersectional-feminist and decolonial perspective, she understands the body as a living archive - as a carrier of political memory, resistance and collective vulnerability.

Karina creates spaces for collective debate in which experiences of exclusion and structural violence are made visible. She works with and in marginalized communities and focuses on their voices as carriers of knowledge, presence and future.
