VERNISSAGE: Ostschule 5 – Chemnitzchen und Ost Jung von Sebastian Jung
In the organizer's words:
A banana star and an East German prototype invite visitors to engage in conversation.
On July 17, 2026, at 7 p.m., “Ostschule 5 – Chemnitzchen and Ost Jung” by Sebastian Jung, curated by Alexander Wagner, opens at LOKOMOV (+ Galerie HINTEN).
Not a traditional exhibition setup, but an intervention: The works appear where people usually talk, drink, and host events—right in the midst of LOKOMOV’s daily operations.
Two figures guide visitors through the space: Ost Jung—a fictional East German prototype who, despite all the clichés, never quite lets you pin him down. And Chemnitzchen—a banana star and fictional mascot of the Capital of Culture. Both are less a statement than an invitation: they serve as a starting point for exploring what is hard to put into words.
The exhibition incorporates quotes from workshops with people from Chemnitz. The hope for a good life for everyone meets with experienced pain, observed anger, one’s own frustration, and that of others—and at the same time, the will to see the good without ignoring the difficult.
Come by, take a look, join the conversation, find your place.
