Vom Fischer und seiner Frau
In the organizer's words:
Once upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife who lived together in an old hut right by the sea. They had just enough to get by—and sometimes not even that. The fisherman went out every day and cast his net. One day, he caught a huge flounder and was delighted by this blessing. But the fish pleaded with the fisherman, begging him to set it free. When the fisherman returned home, his wife bitterly reproached him for letting such a catch slip away.
She sends him back out to sea, telling him to demand a beautiful house from the fish. The house soon becomes too small for her. She wants a palace, then a castle, and finally she even wants to be king and pope. The flounder grants her everything, but when she claims to be God himself, everything collapses like a house of cards.
A play by the Hermannshof Theater about wishing and what really matters in life, for children (ages 5–12).
