Vom Museum zum Forschungscampus - Architekturführung zum Museumskomplex Dahlem

The “Behind the Scenes” tour offers visitors the opportunity to explore the museum complex in Dahlem from an architectural perspective. Today’s Dahlem Research Campus is one of the most significant examples of postwar modernist architecture in Berlin. The extension designed by Fritz Bornemann and Wills Ebert in the 1960s and 1970s embodies a new understanding of museum architecture. Clean lines, minimal use of materials, and flexible spaces continue to define the building’s character to this day.

During the tour, visitors will learn how the complex came to be, what ideas shaped its design, and how the ongoing renovation is preserving the historic structure while adapting it to today’s needs. This highlights how architecture, research, and cultural use intertwine at this site.

In addition to the tour, the gallery in the former bookstore in the foyer at Lansstraße 8 invites visitors to a small photo exhibition. It features historical photographs and background information on the site’s architectural history, complementing the impressions gained during the tour.
