Südstadt is not only hip, but also the scene of various cases that have made waves. Starting with the Grobben case, who was caught in the Waidmarkt gay bar in 1966, through to Schäfer's Nas, who lived on a boat in the Rheinauhafen and ruled the underworld. In the 1980s, a fight raged between Germans and Turks in the Ferkulum right next to the Severinskirche. No one could be held responsible for the 1980 pipe bomb attack on the "Ferkulumstube" restaurant, where mainly Turks frequented, although the perpetrator was convicted.
In Südstadt, we also visit places that were sadly made famous by the National Socialists. We visit the Römerpark, where the book burning took place on May 10, 1933, and Abraham Ochs' stumbling block on Titusstraße.
