FILM & thematic input
With NANE PLEGER
Even if the great history books often don't tell the story: All non-male people have also left their mark on society in the past. It is important to uncover these traces, which was also the life goal of historian Gerda Lerner: "[...] to prove that women have a history" As a pioneering feminist historian, author and social reformer, Gerda Lerner is an inspiring female figure of the 20th century. As a Jew and socialist, she had to flee Vienna from the Nazis in 1939, but continued her fight for social justice tirelessly in exile in the USA. The film focuses on Gerda Lerner's personal, professional and political life. Based on the revolutionary achievements of women in the 20th century, the film also takes a look into the future and explores the question: Where do women stand today? And what is the next step? The screening will be accompanied by an introduction to Gerda Lerner and her work by Nane Pleger.
