"UFOs? Really now?"

If you scratch the surface of the news a little, you will discover dozens of reports from reputable media outlets around the world that have been dealing increasingly with the subject of UFOs for years.

These sightings, now called UAP ("unidentified aerial phenomena"), have been taken increasingly seriously since the official admission by the US Department of Defense in 2020 that such objects exist and are being researched by the US military, and are now the subject of both hearings before the US Parliament and scientific investigations, ranging from NASA to Harvard to the University of Würzburg.

Educational films and documentaries by acclaimed directors such as the recent "Age of Disclosure", "Moment of Contact" and "The Program" as well as numerous documentary series on National Geographic, Netflix and Amazon Prime are reinforcing this trend.

The journalist and author Harald Havas has been writing about these developments, some of which are coming thick and fast, in a series of blog articles in the online STANDARD since 2021, has been reporting weekly on the latest events on his news channel "UFO TV Aktuell" since 2023 and has also written a book on the subject entitled "Das UFO-Handbuch".

The lecture is not primarily about spectacular UFO sightings, abductions or other strange events that are difficult or impossible to prove, but about the increasing international high-ranking official involvement with the previously taboo subject.

In about an hour and a half, Havas summarizes the most important information and the current state of research for an interested audience that has had little or only a superficial interest in the subject or is slightly or even extremely sceptical about the whole thing. But even people who have been studying the phenomenon for years will learn something new.

Harald Havas, born in Vienna in 1964, is a journalist, lecturer, translator and author of numerous non-fiction books as well as screenplays, games and comics. He is not a ufologist.
