Concert by the Moabit Chamber Choir

"What is sacred to me?" - This interesting question is the basis for a concert program on 9.5. at 6 pm in St. Nikolai Spandau.

The Moabiter Kammerchor, accompanied by Johanna Zmeck on the piano, will sing choral works from the 19th-21st centuries, each of which will illuminate a particular moment in time.

Worship music is used to creating a spiritual setting, in this concert, for example, the "Sanctus" ("Holy") from a mass by Steve Dobrogosz or a Kyrie choral movement on the famous Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.

For some people, however, "Earth is sacred" (Clemens Garbe, 2023) or "Vårnatt" ("Spring Night") by Wilhelm Stenhammar, 1912, may speak more to their souls.

Other Swedish choral works as well as the experimental "Fire" and "Earth" by Canadian composer Katerina Gimon will also explore the sonic possibilities of the church, offering the audience their own special moments.

Free admission to the concert, a collection will be taken at the exit to cover the costs.

The Moabiter Kammerchor of the Protestant parish of Tiergarten in Berlin has been in existence since 2024 and enthusiastically sings sacred music at a sophisticated level in church services and concerts. Choral works from all eras, from the Renaissance to contemporary choral music and gospel, jazz & pop are part of the program. The diversity of the choirs in the parish allows for interesting networking: in December 2026, for example, Bach's Christmas Oratorio will be performed both as a classical concert and as a nativity play with children's and youth choir participation.

Almut Stümke is the cantor of the Tiergarten Protestant parish and conducts the children's, youth and chamber choirs, as well as bringing together children and other parishioners to sing.

She is also the regional singing director of the EKBO regional church and is therefore responsible for advising and providing further training for choir leaders and other church staff, as well as promoting singing with children and the congregation.
