Without any reference to the *Star Trek* franchise, Timo Stoffregen ventures into the vacuum of space with his new series of images, exploring a universe full of absurdities that are almost impossible to parody. “What Comes Next?” is an attempt to fathom what kind of Plan B humanity might have once its planet has become uninhabitable.

Here, socially critical analogies drift into absurd satire, and the boundaries between aesthetics and crude cartoon humor blur. The artist has let himself be dragged deep into a world whose abysses can only be endured with black humor.

In this world, endangered cartilaginous fish perish in a sea of satellite debris; combat robots issue their final firing command long after they’ve been bombed out of orbit; and near the sun, the first coffee roastery opens its doors.
