The GDR, German unity and Gen Z

The expectation that East-West differences would disappear over time has not been fulfilled. An independent Eastern identity is increasingly developing, especially among the so-called children of the post-reunification era. In her book "Vereint in Zerrissenheit", Nora Zabel gives the East German Generation Z a voice. Those born in the 1990s no longer experienced the GDR themselves, but still feel its after-effects today. They continue to be confronted with inequalities between East and West, which manifest themselves in different educational and career opportunities, for example. As part of the book launch, Zabel presents the experiences of her generation and discusses how German unity can be realized after 35 years.
