In the organizer's words:

WELTWEBEN is celebrating its fourth year! In the WELTSTUDIO and in the lounge at BERLIN GLOBAL, everyone is once again invited to try out a wide variety of crafts. Weaving on small and large looms, knitting, embroidery, spinning wool and even tufting: there are no limits to your imagination. Instructors will help you put your own ideas into practice and both the curious and the professionals will get their money's worth.

Program

WORLD STUDIO (11 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

Tufting with the artist Luisa Walther

Immerse yourself in the world of tufting! Using a tufting gun, anyone who wants to can add colored wool threads to a fabric. Step by step, a textile work of art is created that is lively and full of texture. The artist Luisa Walther shows how to use this exciting technique and invites you to creatively implement your own ideas.

Collective embroidery

The Berlin association Kollektiv Sticken invites you to take part in the creation of a piece of embroidery. Inspired by current themes and stories, a constantly growing collective work of art is created on a large piece of fabric.

World weaving

In the WELTSTUDIO there is a giant loom, the thread cartograph, on which visitors weave a carpet together. Discover weaving on small and large weaving frames and create your own small woven pieces that you can take home with you afterwards.

Spinning wool

How is wool actually made? We spin wool with hand spindles. Live speakers provide support. You will learn exciting facts about the history of textiles and how wool can be dyed using natural methods.

LOUNGE (1pm - 4pm)

In the lounge next to the WELTSTUDIO, young and old can lounge in the cozy cushions and listen to short stories and the sounds of the handpan while knitting and weaving together from 1 to 4 pm.

Kollektiv Sticken e.V.

The Berlin-based "Kollektiv Sticken e.V." embroiders in public spaces. With their actions, they create spaces for encounters in busy places and bring a wide variety of people together at one table.

Luisa Walther

The artist and social worker Luisa Walther lives and works in Berlin. Her interdisciplinary practice combines textile art, painting and video and deals with social, cultural and feminist issues. Stays in Bologna and New York deepened her knowledge of textiles and shaped her participatory approach. She is fascinated by textiles, which, as silent witnesses to history, tell stories of women and, as a means of expression, can simultaneously convey memory, resistance, pride and identity.
