This herbalism course is aimed at people with no previous knowledge who are looking for a structured, scientifically sound and at the same time practical introduction to the identification and use of native wild plants. The seminar was deliberately designed as a compact course that teaches the most important basics in a short time without remaining superficial.
The focus is on the reliable identification of common, easily usable wild plants. Participants learn to recognize characteristic identification features, systematically classify plants and avoid confusion with unsuitable or poisonous species. Particular emphasis is placed on conveying a basic botanical understanding rather than memorizing individual species in isolation.
The course also serves as a basis for further study of herbalism and is ideal as preparation for more in-depth formats. The seminar is led by biologist and Waldsamkeit founder Manuel Larbig and an experienced member of the Waldsamkeit team.
Didactic concept
In order to make effective use of the time spent in nature, the practical day is preceded by a digital theory unit. In this online module, basic botanical contexts, legal framework conditions and safety-relevant aspects of collecting wild herbs are taught. The unit will be recorded and will also be available to participants afterwards.
The subsequent all-day practical day takes place at selected locations in Berlin or Hamburg. There, the theoretical knowledge is applied directly in the field. The work takes place "on the plant", in different habitats, in order to better understand ecological relationships.
Contents of the seminar
Introduction to botanical identification features (leaf shape, growth, flowers, location)
Basics of plant families and their typical characteristics
Legal principles and safety rules when collecting wild plants
Recognizing suitable and unsuitable collection sites
Reliable identification of around 5-10 common wild plants
Typical confusion partners and their distinguishing features
Simple, everyday applications (e.g. herb butter, tea, oil)
Learning platform and follow-up
All participants receive access to the digital learning platform. The recording of the online unit, accompanying documents, presentations and interactive quiz formats are available there. This allows participants to consolidate what they have learned over the long term.
At the end of the course, participants will have a solid basis for safely identifying wild herbs, collecting them responsibly and using them sensibly - as a starting point for their own experiences or further training. https://waldsamkeit.de/kraeuterkunde-kurs-einfuehrung-wildkraeuter/
