The event will be moderated by Valentin Lippmann, member of the state parliament and domestic policy spokesperson for the Alliance/Greens parliamentary group.

The renowned historian and journalist Dr. Volker Weiß will present his latest book "The German Democratic Republic". The publication offers an in-depth and historically sound diagnosis of the AfD and the extreme right in Germany.

Volker Weiß systematically dissects the ideological foundations and strategies of the extreme right and reveals with a sharp tongue how they reinterpret history in order to instrumentalize it for their political goals and how dangerous this historical distortion is.

The reading will be followed by a discussion with the author. The event will be moderated by Valentin Lippmann, Green Party member of the state parliament and spokesperson on domestic policy.

About the author:

Volker Weiß, Dr. phil, is a German historian who has written extensively on right-wing extremist movements in Germany. He is considered a proven expert on the new right-wing scene. His book "Die autoritäre Revolte. Die neue Rechte und der Untergang des Abendlandes" is considered a standard work on the subject.

In his highly topical new book "Das Deutsche Demokratische Reich: Wie die extreme Rechte Geschichte und Demokratie zerstört" (February 2025, Klett-Cotta-Verlag), he continues his critical analysis of the strategies of the extreme right.
