Internationally successful conductor Daniel returns to his home village after a breakdown. Old wounds and a curious village community await him here. Initially reluctantly, then with increasing commitment, he takes over the direction of the church choir. The choir members are enthusiastic and experience music and togetherness - together with Daniel - in a completely new way. But Daniel's innovations are also met with skepticism, bigotry and serious resistance. The community, the relationships, the perspectives and desires change. A trip to the choir competition leads to a musical and dramatic climax ...

The play makes it tangible what strength it takes to give up habits and certainties. And that it is worthwhile to deal with conflicts openly and to dare to set off together. Cheerful, courageous and musically natural!

"Wie im Himmel" is a theater production based on the film of the same name (nominated for the 2005 Oscar for Best Non-English Language Film), which is being realized by the Theater der Altstadt together with members of choirs from the surrounding church communities.

It is touching to experience how the most diverse people become a community through their shared passion for choral singing, and how they counter our torn times with a strength, a utopia of confidence and optimism.
