Wild herb excursion in Berlin
Three-hour foray through the edible city
Berlin is one of the greenest cities in Europe. In addition to extensive parks and urban forests, there are numerous wastelands, riverbanks and peripheral zones that support a remarkable biological diversity. In fact, urban areas often have a higher number of species than intensively used agricultural landscapes. This wild herb walk invites you to consciously perceive and reclassify the plant resources of the city.
The classic, three-hour herb tour is aimed at interested people who are looking for an in-depth introduction to the world of native wild plants. At least twenty common species are introduced during the walk. The focus is not only on recognizing the plants, but also on their characteristics, potential uses and ecological relationships.
A special feature of the tour is its scientific approach. Traditional knowledge from folk medicine will be classified and compared with current findings from botany, ecology and studies. Topics covered include edibility and potential medicinal effects, safe differentiation from poisonous species, historical and cultural backgrounds and basic rules for responsible collecting. In addition, the biological characteristics of individual species are explained in order to provide a deeper understanding of their adaptations and life strategies.
The wild herb walks usually start and end at easily accessible meeting points in the city. The group size is deliberately limited to a maximum of twelve participants to allow for concentrated work and individual questions. Dates and locations vary and can be selected in the booking process.
