The fact that many of those affected by the Lichtenhagen pogrom were Roma is unknown to many. Only in recent years has the persistent work of many individuals and the Rostock Social Education Association made it possible to interview eyewitnesses from back then. In January 2025, the book Wir entkamen auf eigene Faust will be published, making these voices audible for the first time and featuring readings by actors from the Mecklenburg State Theater. This will be followed by a panel discussion. Guests are Izabela Tiberiade (Asociația Centrul de Cultură al Romilor Dolj, Romania), Johann Henningsen (Soziale Bildung e. V.), Jana Michael (Landesintegrationsbeauftragte Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). Greetings: Birgit Hesse (President of the State Parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), Jochen Schmidt (Director of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Center for Political Education) What happened back then? How do people deal with their traumas? What is the situation of Roma and Sinti in Mecklenburg today? What is the tradition of antiziganist hostility? What can be done? The event is a cooperation between the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung, Soziale Bildung e. V., the Landesintegrationsbeauftragte and the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater.
