WE ARE ALIVE is a fast-paced, funny, and deeply moving musical about new beginnings, solidarity, and a zest for life. An evening where you’ll laugh, pause for a moment—and then laugh again.
Berlin, 1990. The GDR is history. So is Rosi’s hair salon. What remains is a suitcase, many questions—and the search for her children, who have built new lives for themselves in Berlin.
Nina had already fled to West Berlin before the Wall came down—full of dreams, doubts, and big plans. Mario follows her, searching for freedom, love, and a different life. Together, they end up in the squatted old building “Konsum Hoffnung”—a wild, warm-hearted community in the middle of a city where a new club opens every day, a new band forms, and anything seems possible. Here, an impromptu helpline takes shape—for people who need someone to listen. For worries, longings, setbacks, small victories, and big emotions.
While Rosi (played by Germany’s musical theater star, Steffi Irmen) does everything she can to reunite her family, the younger ones stumble through nights filled with music, chaos, intimacy, and new beginnings.
Following the huge successes of *Plate & Sommer*, the writing duo returns with a new Berlin musical—powerful, timely, and full of music that stays with you.
