Mining and iron ore extraction shaped the region for over 2,000 years and were actively pursued in Siegerland until 1965. To demonstrate mining work in Siegerland, a show mine was created under the castle courtyard in 1938. Over a length of around 100 meters, you can immerse yourself in the historical atmosphere of mining.
The extensive collection of minerals also provides an overview of the region's mineral resources.
How the iron ore was processed is shown, among other things, by models and depictions of the metallurgical industry. However, the dominant exhibit is a 5-metre-high blower machine from around 1840.
