It starts with a bang, a hard riff saws away and in the first verse of "DNA" the last chance of a quiet doubt is already dispelled: WIRTZ is back! "Here we live, not stage, the original is back and is programmed to attack", the Frankfurt musician shouts in his first musical sign of life after years of silence to all those who have missed him so longingly and also to those who are only now learning to love him. It's a declaration of war with a wink, but the idea is clear: "DNA" is more than just a sign of life, more than just the harbinger of a new album - it's a mission statement: WIRTZ is back six years after his last full-length album, with a great desire for noise and hard guitars and an all-round crazy program celebrated together. WIRTZ is one of the most successful German musicians, his albums reliably land in the highest chart regions and when he calls for an emotional rock show, the country's clubs are packed to the rafters. And this despite - or rather because - WIRTZ has consistently bypassed the major structures since 2007. Own record company, own identity, from day one. Certainly, the participation in the successful format "Sing meinen Song" provided a tailwind in 2015, but since the beginning the project has been supported by a growing group of supporters who are not interested in trends, but feel and appreciate the real thing. WIRTZ stands for DIY from the first note to the last breath. "As a record boss and A&R, I go for the best copy and that's my DNA," he sings in 2023. When the pandemic pulled the plug on culture in March 2020, WIRTZ was just a few days away from embarking on a sold-out unplugged tour. It is a shock that shakes the entire structure. Things go quiet around WIRTZ because there is nothing to report. But away from the daily madness, new music is created. In new constellations, but with old qualities: raw, mercilessly honest, emotional and hard. WIRTZ has "leveled the old paths, renovated the whole place". "DNA" tells a lot about three years of "stolen lifetime". "There was a lot on my mind that had to be shouted out," says WIRTZ on his loud return. A promise to many, many fans who will once again enjoy their WIRTZ rocked hard and not stirred. "DNA" leaves nothing to be desired, but also shows just one facet of what WIRTZ has always stood for. There is much more to come, but for now, "DNA" is the bang with which the vacuum left by WIRTZ in 2020 implodes. WIRTZ is back.
