His songs already achieved cult status in the 80s and his albums still regularly land in the sales charts today. Wolf Maahn is considered one of the most influential and enduring musicians in the country. Over 1200 live shows, including with Bob Marley, Bob Dylan and Fleetwood Mac, and numerous festivals, from the legendary Rockpalastnacht to Rock Am Ring and Haldern Pop, have made the left-hander and native Berliner "one of Germany's greatest live legends" (wdr.de). He can rely on hits and lyrical strokes of genius such as "Irgendwo in Deutschland", "Ich wart auf Dich" or "Kind der Sterne". The current tour theme "SUCHT DER TRAUMER" is not just a World Cup song classic, but more complex. After the loss of his life partner and creative ally Angelika and his subsequent illness with Long COVID (including motor speech disorder), Wolf Maahn's dominant theme was fragility. But politically and personally, dreaming is the weapon that remains to everyone. This has allowed entire movements to develop. However, the necessary spirit of optimism is currently in a holding pattern, perhaps to land when the grotesque appetite for authoritarianism subsides and human rights once again appear in dreams. This is roughly how Mr. "Rosen im Asphalt" is taking off again with his first-class band. In his luggage "a journey to the roots and at the same time a crossover through his entire oeuvre." (Göttinger Tageblatt). And in addition, as Rolling Stone magazine recently put it, possibly the "magical moments of Maahn". It's always great to see how an audience that largely ignores target groups sings, dances and celebrates together. A full-page concert review in the Hamburger Morgenpost carried the headline "Wolf Maahn played his audience drunk with happiness!". The real World Cup live experience could hardly be better summed up.
