WOMEN IN JAZZ - Eva Klesse Quartet (DE)

In the organizer's words:

In a way, Eva Klesse embodies the basic idea of our festival in an impressive way. The first point of contact came in 2008, when she took part in a workshop led by Julia Hülsmann while still studying in Leipzig, Weimar and Paris. In the years that followed, she was involved in numerous bands and festival projects as a drummer. In spring 2018, she was appointed as the first German professor for a jazz instrument at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. She was also awarded the German Jazz Prize in 2025.

Now Prof. Eva Klesse will be performing at the festival for the first time with her own Eva Klesse Quartet. The four musicians travel a lot and are extremely well attuned to each other. The ensemble recognized early on that its strength lies in working together: in giving each other space, in allowing different musical attitudes and in individual expression. The art of listening, a fine feeling for each other and encouraging and challenging each other characterize their interplay. Every note, every nuance, every beat is deliberately placed - like punctuation marks in a lively text. Despite the structural precision, the joy of playing together remains, which is particularly evident in their live performances in intense, lively interaction.
