WOMEN* & TYPE - FLAGS WITH A MESSAGE
In the organizer's words:
Flags represent the identities of communities.
Flags come in (extra) large sizes.
Flags make a statement at demonstrations.
Flags visualize protest.
The LUX Pavilion in Mainz presents feminist perspectives from the city’s young type design scene, all of which use typographic means to critique the current social status quo: On the ground floor, 18 activist (protest) flags explore feminist positions through typography; on the upper floor, special “female accessories” with a feminist interpretation, as well as typographic statements by young students in the Communication Design program on the relationship between gender and design, are presented.
WOMEN* & TYPE – FLAGS WITH A MESSAGE MAINZ builds a bridge to Wiesbaden and the exhibition WOMEN* & TYPE – CALL FOR FLAGS.
Organizers and project partners: The project is a collaboration between the Institut Designlabor Gutenberg / Mainz University of Applied Sciences: Prof. Dr. Isabel Naegele, Prof. Dr. Petra Eisele, Flávia Nalon, M.A., and students in the Communication Design program; and the Museum Wiesbaden: Jana Dennhard, M.A., and Dr. Jörg Daur.
