Shibari, also known as Kinbaku, is a Japanese word for tying or binding and refers to an artistic form of bondage using various ropes.

The basics of the Japanese art of bondage are easy to learn - and with a little practice, everyone can quickly find their own way of artfully tying their partner (or themselves).

The (previous) workshop Bondage Basics - Shibari 101 deals with these basics. This workshop builds on and develops them further.

You don't need to have attended the first workshop, it's absolutely sufficient if you've had some experience with ropes - whether actual bondage, clothesline, tying up plants, shoelaces, etc. - to participate.

Once again, the topics of communication and safety in the area of bondage always come first. Then we briefly repeat everything we learned in the first course so that we can build on it.

In the main part of the workshop, we will then focus on developing these basics into three very typical Shibari restraints and their variations:

Mune Nawa (Chest Harness)

Matanawa (Crotch Rope)

Kikkou (Turtle Harness)

We will rehearse and practise these in detail... And then see how we can creatively combine and develop them further.

The workshop ends (perhaps) with an outlook on what we might do next time.

Unlike in the first workshop, the details of these restraints can only be practiced well on or with a partner. Solo participants are of course just as welcome as couples and all other constellations. You can practise on yourself or on others. We will find the best and most suitable practicing options for everyone on site.

We provide ropes for practicing in the workshop. You are also welcome to bring your own ropes or buy new ropes on site.

Riley was recently shocked when she realized that bondage has been part of her life for more than 20 years. She herself learned the basics while studying in Vancouver BC, in a fabled time before YouTube, when all knowledge of bondage had to be either passed on in person or painstakingly gleaned from obscure websites. Since then, she has repeatedly given performances and workshops over the years, including at Studio Black Fun in Leipzig and at the Kink in Pink Conference.
