Workshop „Shibari Aufbaukurs 301: Suspension Basics“

In the organizer's words:

Shibari, also known as Kinbaku, is a Japanese word for tying or binding and refers to an artistic form of bondage using various ropes.
In advanced course 301, we approach what is probably the best-known and most awe-inspiring part of Shibari: we learn to fly (slowly). Suspension in the context of Shibari means that a partner (or yourself) is wrapped in ropes and then attached with ropes to a supporting point above until the person floats freely. Just like everything else about Shibari, suspensions are as complicated, difficult and "dangerous" as we make them. And that's exactly where this workshop comes in.

So if you're looking for new challenges after the previous basics courses 101 and 102 and the advanced courses 201 and 202, 301 Suspension Basics is just right for you.

In this course, we will look at the prerequisites for suspensions:

  • What are the physical principles of suspensions?
  • What should you consider and master?
  • How do I attach load-bearing ropes to different parts of the body (and bodies)?
  • What should a person in restraints bring with them?

In this module, we will tie up basic elements of suspension harnesses (such as TK and Karada) and discuss their suitability for suspension.
We will not be performing full suspensions in this course (this will come in 401).
Basically, the course is open to all riggers who have experience and want to expand their knowledge base after self-assessment.
We recommend that participants have previously attended at least one basics module (ideally our courses 101 and 102) and one advanced module (ideally our courses 201 and 202).
We also ask that all participants indicate when registering whether they are primarily interested in bondage, being bound, or both.
The workshop ends (perhaps) with a preview of what might be on the agenda next time.

We provide ropes for practicing in the workshop. You are also welcome to bring your own ropes or buy new ropes on site.

Workshop leader: Riley (you/you)

Riley was recently shocked when she realized that bondage has been part of her life for more than 20 years. She herself learned the basics while studying in Vancouver BC, in a fabled time before YouTube, when all knowledge of bondage had to be either passed on in person or painstakingly gleaned from obscure websites. Since then, she has repeatedly given performances and workshops over the years, in Leipzig at Studio Black Fun and at the Kink in Pink Conference, among others.
