In this writing workshop, we come together to explore the ceremonial tradition of writing that is critical to capturing stories that exist within a neighborhood. Gropius Bau's Neighbor in Residence, hn. lyonga, invites participants* to rethink language as a reference point for their own lives.
We want to consider writing, in the spirit of Toni Morrison, as a way of tuning out chaos and routine, as a way of thinking - not just feeling, but thinking about things that can be contradictory, unresolved, puzzling, or simply endearing. Participants are invited to approach the ceremonial tradition of writing and use storytelling as a way to meet in communities, thinking of it as a neighborly act of rooting ourselves in the ground where our stories find their place: How can we use storytelling for individual imaginings of a hospitable world? In what ways do we tell our stories? How can we anchor our stories in places that were not created with and for us?
This event is part of the program becoming neighbors, developed by Neighbour in Residence hn. lyonga.
With Fenja Akinde-Hummel, Naima Moiasse Maungue and Makda Isak.
