Worte zwischen uns

In the organizer's words:

Talks, music and poetry against the increasing division since 7.10.

In view of the ever escalating situation in Israel and Palestine, the discourse on the Middle East conflict is becoming increasingly heated here in Germany too. For this reason, we are inviting renowned guests to the Schauspielhaus. Day after day, they work to counter the hatred and agitation. Hostages are still being held by Hamas and the suffering of the people in Gaza is unbearable. In Germany, society is reacting with division: the discourse is being escalated to a high level and all too quickly blocked by defamation. At the same time, anti-Semitic and racially motivated attacks are on the rise. Talking to each other hardly seems possible anymore.

Cultural institutions need to create places where uncomfortable conversations can be held, especially now. We discuss the reception of the conflict in Germany and immediately broaden our perspective: How are the people who are in the middle of the war doing? What do they really need now? And how can we move towards peace? Answers to these questions will never be easy. This evening gives space to different perspectives and amplifies the nuances.

The evening is divided into two parts with a break:

Part 1: Keynote speech by Meron Mendel, followed by a discussion between Meron Mendel and Nazih Musharbash (in German), moderated by Annabel Wahba.

Part 2: Discussion with Chen Alon and Jamil Quassas from "Combatants For Peace" (in English), moderated by Annabel Wahba

The evening will be accompanied musically by Simon Popp and poetically by Anna Gesa-Raija Lappe.
