Wörterleuchten »Wenn ihr wegseht, werden wir getötet« mit Daniela Sepehrie
In the organizer's words:
As part of the “Wörterleuchten” series, journalist, author, and activist Daniela Sepehri will present her new book *Wenn ihr wegseht, werden wir getötet* through a reading and discussion — she will also read selected poems of her own.
The event takes place at a time when developments in Iran are once again drawing global attention. For years, Daniela Sepehri has been one of the most prominent voices of the Iranian diaspora in Germany. As a journalist, author, and political commentator, she regularly analyzes the situation in Iran on talk shows, radio programs, and news broadcasts, bringing to light the perspectives of people on the ground.
Daniela Sepehri criticizes the lack of political support and media attention for the protesters, a trend that reemerged in Germany in early 2026. Iran serves as an example of a fundamental problem: Human rights struggles in the Global South—whether in Afghanistan, Palestine, or Syria—are systematically overlooked, downplayed, or oversimplified in Europe. Daniela Sepehri denounces the world’s inaction and speaks very directly about what is going wrong in politics and the media. But she is also determined to offer hope: In times when we are often desperate or discouraged by the flood of bad news, she wants to show how much strength lies within the people fighting against inhumane regimes worldwide.
The reading offers an opportunity to get to know the author not only as a political voice but also as a literary observer. Her texts speak of courage and loss, of exile and belonging—and of the power that can lie in the act of storytelling itself.
