The Wu-Tang Clan is one of the most successful bands in hip-hop history and at the same time feared like no other. Nine angry gangsta rappers from the New York ghetto, whose lives are characterized by crime, drugs and violence, manage to radically change the music business and make their mark on hip-hop. Thick down jackets and baggy jeans, grim expressions and golden grillz - what visually resembles a dangerous street gang soon becomes the standard hip-hop style. But their most important trademark remains their music: the dark, profound lyrics and uncompromisingly hard beats reflect the attitude to life of a generation that is not content with the desolation of the New York ghetto.
From the very beginning, the nine members of the Wu-Tang Clan, led by the completely irrational Ol' Dirty Bastard, put the fear of God into everyone. No one feels able to work with them in the long term. But young music manager Eva Ries is not deterred by this in 1994. In New York City, she earns the respect of the clan and for over twenty years is part of the inner circle of the biggest hip-hop band in the world. In her stylishly designed and illustrated book with numerous previously unpublished photos, the author provides personal, unvarnished and exclusive insights into the world of the Wu-Tang Clan and the music business of the 1990s. The Wu-Tang Clan changed the hip-hop industry and hip-hop itself like no other band.
For almost 30 years, the gangsta rappers have been celebrating great success and influencing a wide range of pop culture. The successful biopic series "Wu-Tang: An American Saga" about the legendary hip-hop band is currently being extended for a third season. In 2023, the hip-hop world will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the birth of the genre.
