Yadegar Asisi - 360°-Panorama: DIE KATHEDRALE VON MONET - Freiheit des Malens

In the organizer's words:

Enjoy a unique art experience in which you will immerse yourself in an oil painting and find yourself in France almost 150 years ago.

The panorama"THE CATHEDRAL OF MONET - Freedom of Painting" by Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi will captivate and inspire you.

With the 32-metre-high panorama, the artist is breaking new ground in his oeuvre: for the first time, a panorama measuring 6 x 2 meters was painted in oil on canvas in his Berlin studio before being digitized in high resolution, printed and finally staged in the Panometer as a huge 360° installation.

With the panorama, the artist invites you on a picturesque journey to the French city of Rouen at the end of the 19th century. The focus is on the impressive Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been immortalized in a diverse interplay of extraordinary colour nuances, shades and incidences of light. Numerous contemporaries of the era, such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Auguste Renoir, can be found on the square in front of it and in the city's alleyways. Background noises and music that reflect the atmosphere of the late 19th century as well as a day and night light simulation bring France's past to life. Viewing takes place at ground level or from the various levels of the 15-metre-high visitor platform.

The printed large panorama has an almost three-dimensional effect: the structure of the canvas, brushstrokes and an enlarged application of paint thanks to digitization can be viewed up close in the 3,500 square metre work of art, allowing you to immerse yourself in the oil painting.

Anyone who has already seen a panorama by Yadegar Asisi in Leipzig knows that the exhibition experience is always rounded off with a multimedia supporting exhibition and a concluding film (approx. 30 min). In the current accompanying exhibition, he is now opening up his studio for the first time and providing a glimpse into his personal workshop with over 200 works from more than 30 years of artistic creation.

New techniques, such as the development of the camera in the 19th century, have massively changed the art world in the past and led to new freedoms and styles in art, such as Impressionism with its play of colors, light and shadow. Today, something similar is happening with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). But instead of feeling threatened by this, Yadegar Asisi has always used technological advances to incorporate them into his artistic work. The accompanying exhibition illustrates this interaction between painting and technology in a captivating way.

The exhibition is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
Guided tours take place at 11 am, 12 noon, 2 pm and 3 pm from the end of March 2024.

Tickets can be purchased both at the Panometer box office and online in advance.
