YOU\ME/ALIEN is an experiment in radical empathy, a meditation on the unknown - not as a figure of fear or exclusion, but as a presence that can be reimagined. While the genre "space opera" usually describes large-scale science fiction epics, Opera Lab Berlin reinterprets it as a poetic and musical exploration of the fragile and deeply political spaces between people and the ways in which they encounter each other.

On this journey, a 12-piece international ensemble interweaves experimental vocal techniques and choreography with the instrumental timbres of strings, winds, percussion and electronics. Sound becomes a terrain of encounter: unstable, searching, oscillating between signal and language. On board a spaceship, the crew tries to interpret the signals, while identities dissolve, reshape themselves and certainties slip away.

This otherworldly sound theater invites you to immerse yourself in a world beyond familiar boundaries and poses urgent questions: How do we hear each other across divides? How does language connect and divide us? And how can art create conditions in which empathy replaces division?
