Zeit für Zirkus: Jonglage-Performance TAKTiL von Benjamin Richter

In the performance TAKTiL Benjamin Richter juggles sculptures that seem to expand in time. The audience is given time and space to let images and stories emerge. 40 white wooden blocks, a stone, a wine glass, a rope and a juggler with their different characteristics form the starting point of this performative journey. As in a living exhibition, the audience is kindly included by the artist in this creative expedition.

Benjamin Richter has been performing as a contemporary juggler and dancer for over 30 years. He has performed as a soloist and in companies such as Gandini Juggling and Cirkus Cirkör at the Edinburgh Festival and the London International Mime Festival. In his performances he consciously allows himself to be moved - physically and mentally - by the properties of the objects he works with. The world of the circus and vaudeville played a major role in the work of Expressionist artists. In Berlin and other cities they visited the circus performances, vaudeville shows, dance halls and other places of entertainment and recorded the experiences they saw there in numerous pictures. The acrobatic postures, the connection between man and animal, the psychological tensions that exist between the performers and the audience, but also the negative sides of the entertainment industry - such as poverty, loneliness and alcoholism and prostitution - fascinated them and inspected them into images that are iconic today. The exhibition "What Urges to Create... Expressionism and Its Consequences" will feature works by Hermann Max Pechstein and Erich Heckel, among others, that explore these issues. With the juggling performance TAKTiL, contemporary circus meets historical representations.
