To mark the 30th anniversary of Depot e.V., SweetSixteen Kino is showing a film from the founding year 1995 on the second Friday of every month.
Depot e.V. was founded as an association 30 years ago. Originating from the search for suitable spaces and opportunities to work artistically and creatively, the association came across the abandoned tram depot in Immermannstraße. Driven by unbridled passion and a thirst for action, a large circle of users and supporters quickly came together. Workshops, studios and event rooms were created with a great deal of personal effort. In 2001, after a lengthy renovation phase, the depot as you know it today was opened. In the meantime, more than 40 users from different areas of the art and culture industry are based and working at the depot.
The sweetSixteen cinema joined a little later, but took the Depot anniversary as an opportunity to take a look back at film history. Which films were shown in the arthouse cinemas in 1995, which may have become classics or cult films and which ones we particularly liked. The result is a small film series with what we consider to be particularly beautiful, important and formative films from 1995.
Every second Friday at 19:00, we cordially invite you to join us on this journey into the past and watch favorite films that have not been seen for a long time (or perhaps never before).
THE MOVIE
Lost Highway
(Mystery/Thriller, US 1997, 129 min., FSK: from 16 years, Director: David Lynch)
Fred Madison (Bill Pullman) is a jazz musician and his wife (Patricia Arquette) is going through a deep relationship crisis. There is every indication that Renee is having an affair and is not telling her frequently absent husband the truth. What's more, strange events in Fred's life are piling up that he can't explain: An unknown voice on the intercom informs him of the death of a man the saxophonist does not know, a voyeur sends him video tapes showing him and Renee in intimate moments and a mysterious man makes it known that he is watching the couple and also knows how to be in two places at once. Then one day, out of the blue, Fred is arrested - he is said to have murdered his wife in a bestial manner and all the evidence is against him. But Fred has no memory of the events and the crime he is supposed to have committed. Nevertheless, he ends up in prison, the evidence is too overwhelming. When the guards open the cell door one morning, they find an innocent young man named Pete (Balthazar Getty) in Fred's place. Of course, Pete is released immediately, as he is not on trial. But Pete's life also seems to be connected to the events surrounding Fred and Renee, and the story becomes increasingly mysterious and convoluted...
