As one of the last Western photojournalists, Nanna Heitmann from Ulm provides an unobstructed view of life in Russia. Her photographs paint a picture of a society that is deeply permeated by state propaganda and largely supports Putin's policies.
With unsparing precision, Heitmann shows how the regime uses indoctrination, myth-making and intimidation to prepare the population for a protracted conflict. However, her camera not only documents the progressive militarization of everyday life, but also what the official reporting conceals: the high losses of the Russian army, moments of fear and despair, as well as scenes of grief and death.
