Festival of New Drama
25th edition

Three world premieres, nine Berlin premieres, a quarter of a century of New Drama: from June 8 to 18, 2022, all stages of the Deutsches Theater Berlin will be bustling with activity. The Autor:innentheatertage offer a glimpse of the lively theater of the present day and present new plays in top-class productions from the German-speaking world for the first time in Berlin over ten days. Traditionally, the highlight of the Autor:innentheatertage is at the end of the festival: In the "Long Night of the Authors" on June 18, three new theater texts will be premiered. The festival's three jurors - playwright Ferdinand Schmalz, actress Julischka Eichel and musician and theater-maker Christiane Rösinger - selected three theater texts from nearly 200 submissions in a play competition, which the Deutsches Theater will premiere on three stages together with Schauspiel Leipzig and Schauspielhaus Graz. The three winning texts this year are by Raphaela Bardutzky, Paula Thielecke and Alexander Stutz. Another text, written by Amir Gudarzi, will be presented as a reading.
As a countdown to the "Long Night," the Autor:innentheatertage will present other, important theater texts in eight analog guest performances and a film streaming. Award-winning star authors and important up-and-coming playwrights will be guests of the Autor:innentheatertage for eleven days. Encounters, conversations - about writing, about theater, about the world as it is not and as it should be. Because there is a lot to talk about.
But the Autor:innentheatertage have always been more than that: an illuminated theater forecourt, music and festival bar, the class reunion of the constantly growing ATT author family, the place for discoveries and for shop talk, a meeting place for Berliners, a festival for contemporaries, eleven days and eleven nights of presence.
