Südwind Festival

The SÜDWIND Festival, the 2nd Bavarian Theater Meeting for Young Audiences, will take place from July 5 to 11, 2023. On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, the Schauburg takes on the role of host and organizes the festival in cooperation with the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Otto Falckenberg Schule.

Visiting are eight selected theaters from Bavaria whose productions are experimental, thought-provoking, surprising, startling and delightful. In addition, the Schauburg invites an international guest performance that dares a new form of theater for young audiences: "A Fun Night Out" by Dutch theater maker Jetse Batelaan of Theater Artemis from the Netherlands. From the repertoire of the Schauburg, "Erik*a". a multimedia revue by Daniel Pfluger with texts by Theresa Seraphin will be shown, among others.

Südwind sees itself as a festival for children, young people and adults. Public parties and music programs, discussion formats and the festival center, which is open daily, frame the program and invite people to meet, learn from each other and experience theater together.

For the theater makers, in turn, it is intended to serve as a forum for exchange and further training within the framework of the working meeting. Together with the New Generation from the Otto Falckenberg School and the Thomas Bernhard Institute of the University Mozarteum Salzburg, they will work on the further aesthetic development of theater for young audiences.

SÜDWIND 2023 - that is not only six days of theater, further education and exchange, but also a series of colorful parties and concerts that invite you to dance and listen to music together. A wide selection of different bands and DJs will frame this year's SÜDWIND Festival with a quality music program. Among them are local Munich greats like the "Express Brass Band", "Hochzeitskapelle" or "Raketenumschau", as well as bands by ensemble members of the Schauburg like "Forward Rain Boy" or "LeBach". Whether it's raw indie tunes in the evening followed by a party in the Kleine Burg, outdoor electro sounds at the "DJ Bike", or acoustic sounds during the day in the festival center - there's something for everyone.
