Our association Altstadtschmiede e.V. runs one of the oldest socio-cultural centers in Germany: the Altstadtschmiede - the smithy for short. Located in the heart of Recklinghausen's old town, the former hoof and nail smithy, built in 1870, is now a listed building. It has been home to the Socio-Cultural Center since 1975.
