Altwarmbüchener See is a man-made quarry pond in the north-east of Hanover, covering around 48 hectares, which was created at the end of the 1970s during construction work on the Moor Autobahn and opened in 1982. On the northern shore, two sandy beaches supervised by the DLRG, sanitary facilities, kiosks and a beer garden invite you to enjoy a relaxing swim, while the quiet eastern shore with its nature reserve and bird sanctuary is ideal for walks, boat hire, sailing and surfing schools. There is an approx. 3.5 km long path around the lake, which is perfect for hiking, cycling or bird watching in the Altwarmbüchen moor.
