The Open Object Collective Oldenburg is opening an exhibition in the city center in cooperation with the Oldenburg City Museum.
From June 17 to July 7, 2024, the exhibition "Queer and from here! Oldenburg city history(ies)", in the RAUM AUF ZEIT at Haarenstraße 39, makes queer life in Oldenburg visible and explores how it can find a representative place in the museum in the long term. What tasks does a museum have in relation to its collection practice? How can objects be (queerly) read and exhibited? And: How can a museum be queered?
In close collaboration with queer communities in Oldenburg, the experimental exhibition presents an exciting variety of objects, places, data and information on queer urban history. In the run-up to the exhibition, the collective launched an open call for objects that show queer life in Oldenburg. After the exhibition, selected objects will be added to the city museum's collection and mark the beginning of a new collection area on queer city history. Visitors can also submit further objects during the exhibition and thus actively help to shape the exhibition. This exhibition is the beginning of researching, collecting and exhibiting queer history at the SMO and preserving it for the future.
