The birthplace of Ernst Barlach was opened as a museum in August 1987 after extensive renovations and presents two to three changing exhibitions per year. The Barlach Art Museum Wedel sees itself as a lively place for the critical examination of art and culture from classical modernism to the present day. It regularly presents themes of historical and contemporary significance. The museum presents renowned artists and collections from Germany as well as international art and icons of popular culture.
