The Capa House is one of Leipzig's most important memorials to National Socialism and the Second World War, but also to the resistance and the liberation in 1945.

In April 1945, Robert Capa came to Leipzig with the Allies as an American war photographer. His world-famous photo series "Last Man to Die" was taken at Jahnallee 61 (now Capa House), documenting the last battles during the liberation of Leipzig by US troops and the death of soldier Raymond J. Bowman on April 18, 1945. This photo series and its creation are the focus of the permanent historical exhibition "War is Over".

After decades of decay, the historic building was rediscovered by a civic initiative and saved through the collaboration of the municipality, volunteer supporters, museum experts and history-conscious real estate developers. Today, it is home to the "Capa House of Remembrance", part of the Leipzig City History Museum, a lively and open exhibition, event and meeting space dedicated not only to Robert Capa, but also to his partner, the (war) photographer Gerda Taro, who died in 1937.

The permanent exhibition "War is Over" is accessible free of charge during opening hours. Guided tours can be booked by prior arrangement.
