The Paderborn Diocesan Museum, built in the 1970s according to plans by architect Gottfried Böhm, displays sacred art spanning over 1,000 years. The permanent exhibition includes sculptures, paintings, and goldsmithing, among them the Romanesque Imad Madonna and the portable altar by Rogerus of Helmarshausen. The cathedral treasury is located in the building’s medieval vaults.

The museum regularly organizes special exhibitions, such as the upcoming “Corvey and the Legacy of Antiquity,” and offers programs for children, school groups, and adults. It is one of the most important art museums in Westphalia and impresses with its extraordinary architecture and high-quality collection.

In 2025, the Diocesan Museum of Paderborn will present its new, experimental exhibition format, CONNECT #, for the first time. External partners are invited to collaborate with the museum to address topics that are socially relevant. The Diocesan Museum sees itself as a space for dialogue on current issues. Contemporary art, literature, film, and music, in particular, have great potential for bringing current crises to light and fostering discussion about them. The CONNECT # exhibitions take place on the museum’s upper exhibition level. Conceptually, they are at times poetic and primarily participatory in nature.
