Built between 1705 and 1725 by Lambert Friederich von Corfey, the Dominican Church with its Roman Baroque façade and octagonal dome is located on Salzstraße in the heart of Münster. During the Second World War, the former Dominican complex suffered heavy bomb damage. Only the southern wall of the former monastery remained in ruins. In the church, the dome above the crossing and the adjoining vaults collapsed, causing considerable damage. The roof was sealed in 1946. It was not until 1961 to 1974, however, that the church was refurbished and used by the university community. The new floor-to-ceiling partition wall between the church interior and the monks' choir strengthened the liturgical character of the central space. Still owned by the city today, the church was profaned again on November 12, 2017. Since June 2018, the Dominican Church has housed the installation Two Gray Double Mirrors for a Pendulum by Gerhard Richter (b. 1932).
