Information and history

The Glückauf film studio on the "Rü" in Essen is not only one of the oldest cinemas in North Rhine-Westphalia, but also the diamond among the regional movie theaters. Opened in 1924 and now restored down to the last detail, it is above all its charming ambience that not only delights cineastes. As a cultural forum, the cinema seats up to 250 people and is still an important platform for premieres, previews and film discussions with directors and actors. Every last Tuesday of the month, the "Ciñol" film series takes place, in which original Spanish films are shown.

Musical performances on the trapezoidal, 30 m² cabaret stage also have a very special charm in this historic atmosphere. Those who hold their events in the Filmstudio take their guests on a journey back to the days of Bubikopf and New Objectivity. Visitors can look forward to an authentic, original movie theater with a memorable 1920s façade and a lovingly designed foyer interior from the 1950s. The large foyer with kidney-shaped tables, tulip lamps and curved bar in the Glückauf film studio offers you another excellent opportunity to create an atmospheric setting for receptions or special events.
