FREIRAUM

FREIRAUM, collaborative conceptual and working space for the arts and sciences, is made possible by the funding TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund. Since its opening in January 2020, it has been used as an "Artist Run Space" and operated by the Ben J. Riepe Team. Located at Engelbertstraße 13, in Düsseldorf-Flingern, it is available free of charge to artists and their cooperation partners from administration, project management, dramaturgy or technology, as well as scientists and advanced students with interfaces to the arts for work stays. With a co-working space with numerous workstations and a large and a small ATELIER, with 110 and 11 square meters, artists of the local, independent scene find here the opportunity for collaborative work in the research and conception phase as well as for the start of joint rehearsals. Smaller presentations and internal showings are also conceivable and feasible here.

Our goal is to offer a protected co-working space for the arts independent of a concrete production, which catalyzes free encounters between artistic genres, affiliated sciences and the different work areas with a flat hierarchy structure. In the sense of artist empowerment, FREIRAUM is intended to be a place of possibilities to jointly pursue virulent questions of art and society: How can we overcome genre boundaries and think of new interdisciplinary concepts, how can we develop a common power and voice? How is an effectiveness of art in society conceivable and feasible? However, our collaborators are not only an active part of FREIRAUM for an intensive processing and discussion of these questions: rather, the offers provided in FREIRAUM are meant to reflect the knowledge, ideas and visions of all actors. Everyone is invited to share his or her "superpower" so that the diverse skills of all participants can cross-fertilize each other and knowledge can expand within the independent scene.
