The Golden Pudel Club was opened at its current location, at St. Pauli Fischmarkt 27, in 1994, driven by the artistic interest of its operators, guests and visitors (and as a continuation of the collective idea of a Pudel Club, which had already found expression in temporary forms of existence years before). While the collective idea of the Golden Pudel Club proved to be surprisingly stable over many decades, the circumstances never were. Confronted with insecure rental contracts, aggressive investor plans or unpredictable urban development policies, the Pudel had to fight for its existence time and again.

The Golden Pudel Club is embedded in the St. Pauli district, in the social processes of the district together with its counter-movements, especially in the park fiction project and its neighborhood network. park fiction and the Pudel cannot be separated.

The Golden Pudel Club represents a collective idea that communicates itself in artistic interests. Within the framework of this idea, it remains undefined what the Golden Pudel Club actually is or should become: Art space, happening place, discursive pub, open club without memberships, free space for experiments, projects and projections or empty space for boredom and purposelessness - an "Elbphilharmonie of hearts" that draws its musical-aesthetic form and glamor from the attempt to refuse the offers, norms and constraints of bourgeois consumer society.

Indeterminacy and openness, while at the same time distancing itself from bourgeois consumer society, carry the program through the various cultural areas, above all sub- and youth cultures, which have shaped the Pudel Club since its inception: Punk, visual (- and non-educational) arts, hip and hop, no wave, jazz, electronic, techno, new music, lots of false and flat, fat and snazzy sounds with nonsensical rumbling and meaningful disco ball squeaking. The Golden Pudel Club sees itself as a place of alternative necessity, where self-determination, prickliness, craziness and warmth come together and merge into a collective idea. The possibility of a counterculture, a place of progressive change and critical observation, which constantly works on itself and remains forever unsaleable - the intention of the Golden Pudel Club and its foundation is to offer this possibility to future generations.
