The House of Austrian History (hdgö) is the federal government's first museum of contemporary history and is located in the Neue Burg on Heldenplatz in the heart of Vienna. It was opened on November 12, 2018 - exactly 100 years after the founding of the First Republic.

The museum is dedicated to Austria's eventful history from 1918 onwards and sheds light on it in a European and international context. The main exhibition, with its compact and modern design, guides visitors through the last century to the present day - from the First Republic, Austrofascism and National Socialism to the Second Republic and the present day.

The museum's aim is to convey Austria's ambivalent history in a contemporary and pointed way and to invite visitors to critically examine it. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the hdgö also offers temporary exhibitions, web exhibitions and target group-specific workshops.
