When we were asked if we already knew Dortmund's newest roastery and had tried their top espresso, we immediately set out. KaffeeLoft is located between Körne and Wambel, not far from Borsigplatz. The roastery opened its doors only at the end of March 2018 and we are brightly excited. The coffee and espresso roasts are all harmonious and round like the Nougat Madness or comfortingly balanced like the Nut Spectacular. The KaffeeLoft roasts are low in acidity and also have fruity nuances. Daniel and Steffi process the coffee beans from Honduras, El Salvador or Ethiopia directly on site. Here, they roast, optimize, package and sell. However, the Loft is not a classic café. The focus is on selling their pleasure beans, on site and online. Of course, you can come by, taste the different varieties, purchase the appropriate equipment if needed, take your time and get extensive advice. Daniel is a trained and verified "Barista Professional" by the SCA (the umbrella organization for specialty coffee) and will philosophize with you about Robusta and Arabica if you like, teach you tips and tricks or simply serve you a wonderfully creamy cappuccino.

It all started with curiosity about how to get the best taste out of coffee beans. This curiosity gripped Daniel a few years ago, when he was still in the middle of his law studies. And curiosity turned into tinkering. The budding lawyer took a very academic-theoretical approach, scouring literature, using various sources from the Internet, playing with grind and water temperature, and meticulously noting down all the results. He attended workshops and also tried his hand as a roaster at home - true to the motto "practice makes perfect." At some point, Daniel asked himself whether this passion for coffee as a product and the craft of roasting was not far greater than that for law. After the first state exam, with the diploma in his pocket, the decision was finally made. Coffee: yes. Lawyer: no.

This decision was made about a year ago. Since then, Daniel and his wife Steffi have been working on the realization of their own Dortmund coffee roastery. "An adventure," as they themselves report, which has also given them the odd cold shower, but has also encouraged them in the realization of their dream. Up to this point, they have put a lot of sweat and work , but above all heart and soul into the project and you can feel that with every visit. The loft is tastefully decorated: urban, minimalist and with every consultation they unobtrusively convey their enthusiasm for coffee. We felt right at home here and are already looking forward to our next tasting.
