On the grounds of Haus Rechen, a moated castle from the 15th century, which, like the theater, was destroyed in the Second World War, the city had the Schauspielhaus expanded in 1966 to include the Kammerspiele. Under the directorship of Hans Schalla, the number of visitors is high and a second venue is needed, which is built by architect Heinz Jentsch, who assisted Gerhard Graubner in the construction of the large Schauspielhaus.
