Kuckuck und Esel - Café

A café as a social statement: that's the idea behind Kuckuck und Esel, which will open in Münster in March 2026. Initiator Jana Baackmann, a 32-year-old corporate lawyer, is pursuing a clear goal with the project: care work should finally receive the appreciation it deserves.

The family café at Münzstraße 38, located between Buddenturm and Schlossplatz, is aimed at all those who are familiar with everyday family life, with all its small and large challenges. After all, those with small children regularly come up against limits in public spaces: a lack of nappy-changing facilities, cramped spaces, noisy environments and little tolerance for whining children make even a simple visit to a café a challenge.

This is exactly what the Kuckuck und Esel aims to change. Baackmann wants to create a space that not only welcomes young families, but actively makes their everyday lives easier. People who provide care on a daily basis should experience visibility and recognition here, beyond coffee and cake.
